23/02/18 U20 SIX NATIONS SCOTLAND U20 v ENGLAND U20 MYRESIDE - EDINBURGH Scotland head coach Stevie Scott

Scott earned 11 International caps for Scotland and represented Edinburgh Rugby on 99 occasions before joining the Border Reivers as a player and brings a wealth of coaching experience with him. Stevie takes over the role from Fergus Pringle, who has taken up the Scotland U20 forwards role.

His coaching career began with Selkirk before making a big impression with the Scottish Rugby Academy, which propelled him into the professional game with English Premiership giants Sale Sharks. Stevie’s big breakthrough came in 2013 when he became Interim Head Coach of Edinburgh Rugby before taking a more permanent position as Forwards Coach. Most recently, Stevie has been with Championship side London Scottish and had a brief stint at Worcester Warriors before the club fell into administration last year.

Scott also has coaching pedigree at international level, where he was Assistant Coach to Andy Robinson in the 2013 RBS 6 Nations campaign, where Scotland finished third. Stevie also joined Robinson’s back room in Romania, where he helped guide the tier two nation to this year’s Rugby World Cup, where the team are set to face Scotland and South Africa.

The new coach has also spent time with USA Eagles and Utah Warriors in America’s Major League Rugby.

Scott will continue working with the existing Watsonians coach, Nikki Walker, with whom he shared the famous BT Murrayfield turf in the National team’s 2002 record win over South Africa. Assistant coach Richard Sneddon will also continue his role in the coaching team.

On his appointment, Stevie said: “Firstly, I’d like to thank Watsonians for offering me this position. It’s great to be back coaching in Scotland after many years aboard, where I’ve gained lots of experience.

“I’m really looking forward to getting started and working alongside two good coaches in Nikki, Richard and the rest of the staff at the club as we all look to improve on the good work done previously by Fergus.

“We have a good strong squad with experience and young inspiring players, but it’s important that we keep strengthening this as we build towards the start of the season.”

Watsonians Rugby Director of Rugby, Chris Hunter, said: “The club are excited to have someone of Stevie’s experience and calibre leading our Super6 programme. Stevie’s CV speaks for itself, having worked with Professional and International teams.

“We have no doubt that Stevie will build on the fantastic work Ferg has done over the last three years whilst bringing in his own ideas. The club have ambitions to build on last season’s success, and we believe that in Stevie, Nikki (Walker) and Snedds (Richard Snedden) we have the coaching team to do that.”
