Updated National Therapeutic Use Exemption pool for 2024/25 season

Scottish Rugby has updated its National Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE) Pool for the 24/25 season.

With the competition continuing to grow, the Celtic Challenge has been added to the pool for the first time.

Players in the below groups will require to apply for a TUE should they need to use medication that is on the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) prohibited list:

Scotland Men’s Squads (Senior, Scotland A and U20)
Scotland Senior Women’s Squads (Fifteens)
GB Sevens Squads (Men and Women)
Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors (Men’s Senior and Academy Squads)
Women’s Celtic Challenge (Women’s Senior Squads)

A TUE can be applied for by visiting the UKAD TUE Wizard HERE.

Head of Medical Operations Richard Wood said: “Our players, during the course of the season may fall ill or have a medical condition that requires a particular medication. If the prescribed medication contains a substance that is on WADA’s Prohibited list, they will need to apply for a Therapeutic Use Exemption (TUE).

 “A TUE ensures that players can be treated for an illness or medical conditions, even if the treatment involves using a prohibited substance or method, while avoiding the risk of being sanctioned.

“Players should check all medications using the Global Drug Reference Online (DRO) to check the status of the medication, whether it is banned, and if a TUE is required.”

Aila Ronald, who represented Edinburgh Rugby in the 2023/24 Celtic Challenge and is currently in the Scotland Women squad at WXV2, added: “The Celtic Challenge has been really helpful in pushing me on as a player, and it’s great to see it grow year on year.

“Keeping the competition clean means that hard work is rewarded, so it is important that players use a Therapeutic Use Exemption if they need to so that the Celtic Challenge can continue to be a fair place to compete.”
