The inaugural Howden British & Irish Lions Women’s Series is a seminal moment for global rugby, bringing the prestige and tradition of the Lions jersey to the women’s international stage. The launch of the Tour marks a powerful step forward for the game, reflecting the extraordinary growth of women’s rugby across the Home Unions and around the world.
In recent years, record-breaking crowds, expanded broadcast coverage and increasing participation at grassroots level have highlighted the rising popularity of the women’s game. Competitions such as the Guinness Women’s Six Nations and the Women’s Rugby World Cup have demonstrated the appetite among fans for elite international rugby, while professional pathways for players continue to expand.
The 2027 Tour will build on this momentum, offering a global platform for the very best players in the northern hemisphere to compete together under the famous red jersey. Following the confirmation of the match schedule earlier this year, fans and players are now looking ahead to a five-match series that will showcase the very best of the women’s game on the global stage.
Five cities have been chosen to showcase this historic rugby event, and alongside Whangārei and Christchurch, games will also be played in Auckland, Hamilton and Wellington. Kicking off in Whangārei on Saturday 4 September 2027, opposition for the non-Test matches throughout the month will start with the Black Ferns XV, before an Invitational XV team will face the Lions in Hamilton.
