Scotland Women match breaks ticket record in under a week

Scotland Women’s first standalone match at Scottish Gas Murrayfield has already become the fastest selling match in the team’s history, in just four days.

Fans snapped up the chance to part of Scotland’s sporting history buying nearly 3,500 tickets in the first four days of sale alone. To put the demand in context it previously took over four months to reach the same figure for the Scotland v England game in 2024.

Scottish Rugby announced last week Scotland Women would play against England’s Red Roses at Scottish Gas Murrayfield in the 2026 Guinness Women’s Six Nations as a strategic drive to grow the game and acknowledge the progress the team had made. It was also seen as a fitting addition to the current Centenary Celebrations, marking 100 years of the stadium in 2025.

The match pre-sale took place on Thursday 5 June, the day after the announcement. This generated just under 1,100 sales, the highest ever number of sales in a single day for any previous Scotland Women game. The general sale started the next day (Friday 6 June) and promptly broke the previous day’s record, selling 1,768 tickets.

At the launch to announce the fixture Gemma Fay, Head of Women & Girls’ Strategy said the initial ticket crowd target was 18,556 which would make the event the largest attended standalone women’s sporting event in Scottish history, overtaking the Scotland v Jamaica football match in 2019 at Hampden Park which had 18,555 in attendance.

Scottish Rugby’s Chief Customer Officer, Olaf Gueldner said: “The demand for tickets since we announced moving the match into Scottish Gas Murrayfield has been unprecedented.

“Fans clearly want to be a part of history and we will be working hard to generate a record crowd to support our Scotland Women team as they face our oldest and closest rivals.

“The early demand for tickets is a great starting point and we would encourage all fans of sport in Scotland to join us on the day.”
