McVie started his rugby career playing school-boy rugby at Trinity Academy.
After leaving school, he joined Premiership side Edinburgh Accies before moving to FOSROC Super Series side Heriot’s Rugby, where he played during the 2023 FOSROC Super Series Sprint.
At the start of the 2023/24 season, McVie was named as one of the fifteen FOSROC Scottish Rugby contracted academy players aligned with Glasgow Warriors.
