Matthew Urwin began playing rugby at West of Scotland RFC.
He also played all throughout the age-grades at his school, St Aloysius’ College. In 2022, he competed alongside Scotland U20 team mate Johnny Ventisei in the U18 School Shield Final at Murrayfield Stadium, where they were victorious against The High School of Glasgow.
In 2023, Urwin was named as one of the FOSROC Scottish Rugby contracted academy players aligned with Glasgow Warriors. He also made eight appearances for the FOSROC Future XV side during the FOSROC Super Series Championship.
