Born in Inverness and raised in Northumberland, Caity Freya Mattinson has taken her rugby journey from grassroots to the global stage.
Caity discovered her love for rugby at just seven years old, playing for Tynedale Rugby Club after her family moved to Northumberland.
Her early dedication and talent paved the way for her international debut with England, where she earned seven caps between 2017 and 2018.
In 2022, Caity earned her first call-up to represent Scotland under World Rugby’s new eligibility rules. She made her debut for Scotland during the Rugby World Cup 2021 Qualification Tournament against Colombia, marking a proud moment as she returned to her Scottish roots on the international stage.
Caity has since gone on to feature at the Rugby World Cup and WXV2 in both 2023 and 2024 for Scotland, as well as three Six Nations tournaments.
“I’m extremely proud to be playing for Scotland, and it just feels right to be in this environment. There are even little things that are just super special. We’ve done a ceilidh before every gym session since we’ve been out here, we listen to loads of traditional Scottish music. There’s so much that binds everyone together culturally, and it’s the stuff that you don’t get anywhere else that I adore. It’s super, super special.” – Caity Mattinson speaking in October 2023
Currently playing for Ealing Trailfinders in the PWR, Caity is known for her precision, agility, and sharp decision-making as a scrum-half.
