Meryl's rugby journey commenced at the age of six while residing in the Netherlands.
Upon returning to Edinburgh at 13, she joined the Murrayfield Wanderers Girls team, further honing her skills and passion for the sport.
Balancing athletics with academics, Meryl enrolled at the University of Edinburgh in September 2019 to study Biological Sciences, and played for the University side in the BUCS league.
Meryl’s international rugby career began when she captained the U18 7s squad in the summer of 2018 before earning her first call up to the senior Scotland Women 7s squad in June 2019.
After time playing in the Celtic Challenge with the Thistles, Meryl made her Senior 15s debut during the 2022 TikTok Women’s Six Nations Championship, coming off the bench against England. Later that year, she represented Team Scotland in Rugby Sevens at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games, contributing to the team’s sixth-place finish, and also featured for Scotland in the Rugby World Cup played in New Zealand.
Since making her senior international debut, Meryl has featured in the 2023 and 2024 Six Nations Championship plus both WXV2 competitions.
Over the last three years Meryl has earned a reputation of a calm, composed and clinical rugby player who is versatile in her abilities, playing across the stand-off, centre and full-back positions, adding depth to the Scottish backline.
Away from international rugby, Meryl now plays club rugby in the PWR for Bristol Bears.
