2023 FOSROC Super Series Championship Semi-Finalists Confirmed

2023 FOSROC Super Series Championship Semi-Finalists Confirmed

Scottish Rugby can now confirm the details of the FOSROC Super Series Championship semi-finalists.

After 14 regular rounds of the competition, the teams who finished in the top four positions in the regular league table will play each other in a 1st v 4th and 2nd v 3rd semi-final fixtures to determine the two finalists.

On Friday 10 November, Heriot’s Rugby, who finished top of the table in 1st place will welcome 4th place Stirling Wolves to their semi-final fixture at Hawthornden, Lasswade RFC (kick-off 7.35pm). This game will be shown live on the Scottish Rugby website, BBC Sport website and BBC iPlayer.

Heriot’s finished top of the table with 52 table points after winning ten out of their twelve games, only losing one match to Ayrshire Bulls in Round 2 (33-21) and conceding a 21-all draw against Southern Knights this weekend in their Round 14 fixture.

The Edinburgh side have amassed 494 points throughout the Championship, scoring 79 tries so far earning them a try bonus point in all 10 of their victories.

The fourth-place position in the semi-finals was in contention until the last moment in Round 14, with both Stirling Wolves and Southern Knights in the running. However, the Knights draw on Friday evening against Heriot’s made it impossible for them to qualify regardless of the Wolves outcome against Boroughmuir Bears in their Round 14 match.

Stirling Wolves finished in fourth place with 33 table points, with equal wins and losses to their name at six a piece. They enter their semi-final match with 423 points from 64 tries following a strong performance throughout the Championship.

In a repeat of last year’s Championship Final, on Saturday 11 November we will see second place, Ayrshire Bulls host third place Watsonians at Millbrae (kick-off 5pm). This match will be broadcast live on BBC ALBA and will be available to those outside the UK on the Scottish Rugby website.

The Ayrshire Bulls finished securely in second place on the table amassing 47 table points throughout the regular round of the competition. The Millbrae outfit won nine out of their twelve games, losing twice to their semi-final counterpart Watsonians in Round 1 (3 – 11) and in Round 8 (24 – 21), and once to table topper Heriot’s in Round 9 (49 – 36).

With 53 tries under their belt they will be hoping that their home advantage and the chance to return to Hive Stadium to avenge last year’s loss, will be enough to defeat Watsonians for the first time this Championship.

The current 2022 Championship winner’s Watsonians sit in third place having won nine out of the twelve games this Championship totaling 40 points in the table. They will travel to Millbrae in the hope of continuing their winning streak against Bulls to return to the Championship Final and defend their title.

Following their draw this weekend Southern Knights finished fifth in the table with 27 points when their chances for a semi-final spot became unreachable due to a last minute try from Heriot’s on Friday evening leveled the scoreboard.

Finishing one spot below Southern Knights is Boroughmuir Bears in sixth place with the FOSROC Future XV completing the table in seventh place. The final points for both teams are still to be determined as they have one more match to play against each other next Friday 10 November (kick-off 7.35pm) at Meggetland in their rescheduled Round 9 fixture.

The FOSROC Super Series Championship trophy will be contested by the two teams who win their respective semi-finals the following week at the Championship Final.

The 2023 FOSROC Super Series Championship Final will once again take place at Hive Stadium, home to Edinburgh Rugby on Saturday 18 November, kick-off 4.10pm. The Final will be broadcast live on BBC ALBA with the match available to those outside the UK on the Scottish Rugby website.
