Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership feature match: Melrose v Hawick

Saturday’s televised Borders derby between Hawick and Melrose is smouldering before could the match has kicked off.

Hawick are coming off the back of a disappointing display against league leaders Ayr last weekend, where they shipped 93 unanswered points at home.

Melrose on the other hand defeated Edinburgh Academicals in the previous weekend, in doing so snagging their ninth win of the season, and leapfrogging rivals Hawick.

Melrose will welcome the chance to secure their 10th win of the season in the match at the Greenyards. this time against their storied rivals. The match will be played live on BBC ALBA at a 3:05pm kick off time.

Five things to watch out for this weekend:

  • It’s a top of the table clash as Ayr host Heriot’s at Millbrae. Ayr go in to the match five points clear, but Heriot’s will be desperate to reel them in and not allow them to win the league portion of the Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership.
  • Glasgow Hawks can send Edinburgh Accies down this weekend if they win against high-flying Watsonian FC. Anything less than that and the Hawks are still mathematically in danger, with Marr’s two games in hand.
  • Currie can secure their playoff spot with a win against Kelso if results go their way. That would see the top four set in stone with matches still yet to be played. Kelso have already secured their spot in the top division next season.
  • It might as well be do or die for Marr and Accies this weekend – the loser of tomorrow’s match is almost certainly going down. A win doesn’t mathematically save either team, but it keeps them alive for another week.
  • Musselburgh have another huge task ahead of them this weekend as they head to Selkirk, who still have a chance to qualify for the semi-finals. The fifth-placed side will have no qualms in doing their utmost to keep the pressure piled on Currie.
