Report: Scotland Men U20 101-0 Hong Kong China U20

Scotland almost had a chance at scoring within the first minute, but were held up just over the line. Luckily they had a penalty advantage, so play was brought back and Matthew Urwin kicked to the corner. Dylan Cockburn collected the ball from the line out and passed to Freddy Douglas who pushed over for the first try of the afternoon. Matthew Urwin’s kick was good bringing, the Scots seven points in front [7-0, 2 mins].

In the seventh minute, Scotland conceded a penalty within their 22, and Hong Kong China opted to kick. It was missed and Scotland regained possession.

It only took a couple of minutes before Scotland added a second. A brilliantly timed offload from Matthew Urwin let the ball get into the hands of Johnny Ventisei who raced down the right wing and offloaded to Finlay Doyle on his right shoulder who was over. Matthew Urwin’s kick was good again [14-0, 9 mins].

Another came for Scotland after a series of attacking phases saw the ball get into the hands of Liam McConnell who was just short of the try line. He added some style and spun his way over to score. The kick was successful yet again by Matthew Urwin [21-0, 16 mins].

In the 21st minute, Scotland earned the bonus point through a excellent run from Jonny Morris saw him slip past the Hong Kong China defence to dive under the post. Urwin’s boot was on fire and he secured the extra two points [28-0, 21 mins].

Another five minutes later and the Scots had another, this time through Hector Patterson. He took the ball out of the maul and a dummy pass let him dance around the defenders and get his name on the scoreboard. The kick was good once again from Urwin [35-0, 26 mins].

Freddy Douglas was in for his second within the 29th minute when he was at the helm of heavy driving maul. Urwin’s kick hit the posts [40-0, 29 mins].

Finlay Doyle added his double in the 33rd minute. A break from the line out from Seb Stephen got the ball into the hands of the wing who raced to dot down. Urwin’s kicks were back on track and he added the extras [47-0, 33 mins].

And just two minutes later, Doyle got his hat trick. Another great break from Seb Stephen saw the hooker race down the pitch and offload to Doyle who was over again on the right wing. Urwin’s kick was successful [52-0, 35 mins].

A tackle off the ball saw Ludo Kolade sent to the sin bin for 10 minutes just shy of the half time whistle [52-0, 37 mins].

Early into the second the second half after some attacking phases from Stephen, White and Yule, Johnny Ventsei got his name on the scoreboard. Matthew Urwin was back with his successful kicks [59-0, 41 mins].

The next try came from a solo sprint up centre field from Ludo Kolade saw him brought down just shy of the try line. But Jonny Morris was there to support on his left shoulder and he gathered to crash over. Urwin’s kick was successful [66-0, 50 mins].

A perfectly timed offload from Matthew Urwin got the ball into the hands of Jack Hocking who made a fantastic step to bypass his opponent and dive over. Matthew Urwin converted again [73-0, 53 mins].

And just two minutes later, replacement wing Fergus Watson added his name to the scoreboard when he put his foot on the gas up the left wing to dot down behind the posts. Another conversion was added for Urwin [80-0, 55 mins].

It looked like Tom Currie had managed to push past the defence from close range to score, but the ref called it held up. Scotland were awarded a penalty though and a quick pick and go was taken by Jerry Blyth-Lafferty and he crashed over with the help of his fellow forwards. Kick was good again from Urwin [87-0, 63 mins].

It was a ten minutes before another score came but after some solid carries from some of the backs, Ludo Kolade collected and stretched over the line. Urwin converted again [95-0, 76 mins].

Just 30 seconds before the full time whistle, Ryan Burke added one more try for good measure. Matthew Urwin’s kick was good one final time, bringing the score into triple digits [101-0, 79 mins].
