2026 was a hugely successful summer events season at Scottish Gas Murrayfield. As full time blew on the final rugby match of the season, the stadium quickly shifted into concert mode to welcome Zach Bryan to kick off the summer.
Back to rugby as the grounds staff quickly got the pitch back to standard for Fiji’s home match against Scotland in July as we welcomed a Fijian summer party to the Scottish Capital.
This was followed by another country music star coming to Edinburgh. Luke Combs brought his ‘My Kinda Saturday Night’ tour to Scottish Gas Murrayfield for two exceptional nights, which also welcomed Scottish sporting and film stars to the stage in Scotland players Matt and Zander Fagerson, footballing legend John McGinn and Hollywood actor Sam Heughen.
A quick shift back to grass for Newcastle United to take on Everton in a pre-season friendly with the climax of the summer season bringing the legendary Bon Jovi to Edinburgh.
The Murrayfield Campus hosts over 50 major events per year. Ranging from sold-out Scotland international rugby matches at Scottish Gas Murrayfield, matches at Hive Stadium for Edinburgh Rugby, Scotland Women and U20, community rugby finals days for adult and youth competitions, corporate and business conferences and national fundraising events such as Kiltwalk and Men’s 10k and of course concerts. This year, Scottish Gas Murrayfield hosted the largest attended women’s sporting event in Scotland, ever, when Scotland took on the Red Roses in the Guinness Women’s Six Nations.
In 2025, Scottish Rugby announced that it received an independent evaluation of its overall economic value to Scotland. The valuation covers from June to December 2024 and incorporates home matches for the national men’s and women’s teams; Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow Warriors’ home fixtures; and the concerts and events hosted at Murrayfield and comes in at £120.4million.
Of that, more than one third was spent by visitors whose home was outside of Scotland at £41.9million. The media impact – included in the total figure – was calculated at £13.2million, of which the Taylor Swift | The Eras Tour staged at Scottish Gas Murrayfield last June generated media coverage alone worth £8.3million.
All events at Scottish Gas Murrayfield and Hive Stadium are supported by The Safety Advisory Group, a multi-agency group chaired by City of Edinburgh Council, and includes Scottish Rugby, emergency services, transport providers, and security/medical teams.
Sam Fender released his number one selling, critically acclaimed third album People Watching in 2025 via Polydor Records. The album won the 2025 Mercury Prize, with Sam also picking up a BRIT Award in 2025, two BRIT Awards, and an Ivor Award for Songwriter of the Year, since its release.
He debuted People Watching’s ‘Rein Me In’ alongside Olivia Dean at his London Stadium Show to over 80,000 fans in June 2025, before it was released as a duet later that month. In 2026, the song took on a life of its own, culminating in a record breaking 23 non-consecutive weeks at number one, becoming the longest running number one single in British history, taking the Brit Award for Song of the Year, and topping the charts in Ireland for 18 weeks equalling the Irish chart record.
