Arnold Clark Premierships feature match: Hawick v Currie
A floundering Hawick side host high-flying Currie Chieftains at Mansfield Park tonight, live on BBC ALBA from 7:35pm.
The hosts sit rock bottom after five matches – having had to call off their tie away against Ayr due to Storm Amy last week – while Currie grabbed the opportunity to go top of the pops with their win against Watsonians.
Just two years prior, these two met in the Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership final at Mansfield Park – Currie winning on that day by the finest of margins.
Much has changed in that time though. Hawick picked up a critical 21-all draw against Heriot’s in their most recent match, meaning they are only two points behind ninth-placed Selkirk.
It’s an early season test for these two great sides, and you can catch all the action broadcast live on BBC ALBA tonight – it’s a 7:35pm kick off.
Five things to watch out for this weekend:
- It’s the final full round of the Arnold Clark Women’s Premiership’s first stage, before the top four and bottom four teams split for six further matches. Hillhead Jordanhill and Heriot’s are the teams to watch as they may still switch sides.
- Another west coast derby will light up the Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership this weekend as Ayr travel to high flying GHA. Newly promoted GHA have five wins from their opening six matches thus far.
- Kelso and Heriot’s are just one rung separated on the ladder and just a point adrift. The Borders side will be looking to make amends after their 25-15 loss against Glasgow Hawks.
- Selkirk and Hawks have had similar starts to the campaign and now they come head to head in an early season clash which could spell a relegation battle for the losing side later on down the line.
- Both Melrose and Watsonians pulled a losing bonus point from the previous round, and will be desperate to steady the ship as they face each other at the Greenyards on Saturday.
