Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership feature match: Musselburgh v Edinburgh Accies

17 Jan 2025

Attention turns to the foot of the Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership table this weekend as Musselburgh host Edinburgh Academical at Stoneyhill.

Rooted to the bottom, Musselburgh have won two of their 13 matches and have a points difference of -335. Accies teeter on the edge of the relegation zone, just a single point ahead of tenth-placed Kelso.

The visitors return to play this weekend after a 27-point thrashing at the hands of Currie Chieftains, while Musselburgh lost to an equally large scoreline against league leaders Ayr RFC – 50-19 in their last run out.

As we near the conclusion of the 2024/25 season every point matters and both sides will be desperate to notch a win.

Five things to watch out for this weekend:

  • Friday night’s matchup sees fourth-placed Currie host second-placed Heriot’s at Malleny Park. Currie’s charge up the ladder is down to an incredible run of form after a shaky start to the season.
  • It’s a west coast derby on Saturday, with the Hawks hosting league leaders Ayr. In the reverse fixture, Ayr ran out 57-12 victors.
  • Watsonians will look to keep their good form rolling as they host Hawick on Saturday afternoon. The visitors sit mid table and will look to show their value against a strong side.
  • Another Borders derby sees Selkirk host Melrose. Both sides sit just outside of the semi-final berths, in sixth and fifth respectively. These matches are always fiery.
  • Kelso host Marr in the second relegation dogfight of the weekend. Marr, with a game in hand, sit 11th, looking at the prospect of a win to take them out of the relegation places. Kelso have the same prospect as both sides sit on three wins for their season.
