Both will take to the field after enduring heavy losses in the previous round. Melrose were on the receiving end of a rampant Ayr team, who won the match 45-9. And Marr took their heaviest defeat so far, in a 73-0 result at the hands of third-placed Watsonians.

Home side Marr sit 10th in the league, while Melrose sit slightly higher in eighth, and with three teams dropping out of the Premiership into National 1 at the end of this season, both sides are right on the cusp of the relegation zone at the moment.

Five things to watch out for this weekend:

  • Hillhead Jordanhill take on Watsonians in the Arnold Clark Women’s Premiership tomorrow in a third versus fourth matchup. The result in their previous match was a 24-5 win for Watsonians.
  • Heriot’s take on Garioch in a rematch of the remarkable 22-20 win for Heriot’s in early September. This time around the tie could decide who finishes in fifth – what many are seeing as the best of the rest in the women’s competition this year.
  • Fifth plays sixth in the Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership as Selkirk travel to Currie. Both sides are locked on 22 points after eight rounds, and are looking to push on into the top four.
  • Another Borders derby is right around the corner – this time it’s Hawick hosting Kelso. Neither side has shot out of the gates this year and both will be looking to turn their fortunes around.
  • Can anyone stop Ayr? Edinburgh Accies are the next challengers as thus far Ayr have recorded the maximum five points in each of the opening eight rounds of action.
