Arnold Clark Premiership feature match: Musselburgh v Melrose

20 Sep 2024

The Arnold Clark Men’s Premiership sees an early jostling for mid-table positioning in this week’s feature match, as Musselburgh host Melrose tomorrow afternoon.

EDINBURGH , SCOTLAND - AUGUST 16: Ayr’s Blair MacPherson, Currie Chieftains’ Charlie Brett, Edinburgh Accies’ Jamie Loomes, Glasgow Hawks’ Paul Cairncross, Hawick’s Shawn Muir, Heriot's’ Ruaridh Leishman, Kelso’s Keith Melbourne, Marr’s Colin Sturgeon, Melrose’s Donald Crawford, Musselburgh’s Robert Stott, Selkirk’s Andrew McColm and Watsonian FC’s Craig Davidson during the launch of the 2024/2025 Arnold Clark Premership season at Currie Chieftains RFC, on August 16, 2024, in Edinburgh, Scotland. Early form suggests this match could set the tone for each side’s season, as both go into this weekend’s match with a win and two losses from the opening three rounds.

Currently sitting 10th and 11th in the Premiership standings, both team’s lineups suggest they are going near full-strength into Saturday’s tussle at Stoneyhill.

Things to watch out for this weekend:

  • Stirling County (fourth, with a game in hand) host Arnold Clark Women’s Premiership surprise package Hillhead Jordanhill (second) in what will be a thrilling encounter at Bridgehaugh as clubs attempt to stamp their mark on play-off spots.
  • In a replay of the 2023/24 Men’s Premiership final, Currie takes on Hawick, although both clubs will admit they haven’t started this season as they intend to go on. One win between both clubs in the opening three rounds means this tie will be one to watch.
  • Selkirk’s hot start in the Men’s Premiership – two wins from three thus far – sees them host league leaders Ayr this weekend.
