This year’s competition is sponsored and supported by Saltire Energy, which joined Scottish Rugby as a partner on a three-year deal in July 2021.

The Saltire Energy Caledonia Cup competition celebrates Girls and Boys rugby across Scottish Rugby’s Caledonia Region (Caledonia North and Caledonia Midlands), providing the young players with enhanced development opportunities in an environment which is both inclusive by catering to all skill and age levels, whilst offering a competitive element.

The format follows a progressive structure, leading teams to compete at an inclusive Finals Day (1 May 2022) based on levels of skill and development for each participating team.

In the Boys’ competition, clubs will participate at U18, U16 and U15 levels, whilst the Girls’ competition will see clubs participate at U18 and U16 levels.

For this year’s competitions, 27 clubs have entered including: Aberdeen Wanderers, Alloa, Angus, Caithness, Carnoustie, Deeside, Dundee, Dunfermline, Ellon, Garioch, Glenrothes, Gordonstoun School, Highland, Howe of Fife, Huntly, Kelpies, Kirkcaldy, Livingston, Mackie, Montrose & District, Moray, Orkney, Perthshire, Ross Sutherland, Shetland, Stirling County and Strathmore.

Rudi Urbach, Director of the Caledonia North Region said: “As we start the delivery of the 2022 edition of the Saltire Energy Caledonia Youth Cup we’re delighted to continue supporting our Caledonia clubs and communities to access a long-standing and meaningful competition that encourages participation and opportunities for players from across our unique and vibrant region.

“The cultures, values and behaviours associated with the competition are enhanced in 2022 with the addition of Saltire Energy as our official partner, a proudly North business.”

Steve Turnbull, Director of the Caledonia Midlands Region added: “We are really looking forward to seeing the Caledonia Cup get underway this season. With an obvious hiatus last season due to Covid-19, it is really pleasing to see 27 clubs from across the Caledonia regions take part. This competition is a fantastic opportunity for our youth players to develop in competitive environments during this phase of the season.”

Chief Executive at Saltire Energy, Mike Loggie said: “We are delighted to support the Caledonia Cup, as it very much signifies the positive impact sport has within our communities.  Saltire Energy takes huge pride in supporting Scottish Rugby, whose core values of respect, leadership, achievement, engagement and enjoyment are fundamental to all that we stand for.”
