Scottish Rugby confirms broadcast details for Silver Saturday

4 May 2023

Scottish Rugby has announced details for worldwide viewing of matches to be played across BT Murrayfield and DAM Health Stadium on Saturday 6 May, known as Silver Saturday.

Teams booked their places in their respective finals via a knock-out competition played across the year.

Seven games will be featured across the National Finals event for adult rugby including:

  • The Scottish Cup: Hawick v Marr (6pm)
  • The Sarah Beaney Cup: Watsonians v Corstorphine Cougars (3.10pm)
  • Men’s National Shield: East Kilbride v Stewartry (10am)
  • Women’s National Shield: West of Scotland v Cartha Claymores (12.30pm)
  • Women’s National Plate: Oban Lorne v Grangemouth (3.30pm)
  • Men’s National Bowl: Panmure v Kinloss Eagles (1pm)
  • Women’s National Bowl: Perthshire v Hillhead Jordanhill 2XV (10.30am)

The women’s competition was expanded to include the National Shield for the first time as a result of the growth of teams across the country.

This is the first time since 2018/19 that a full men’s and women’s Silver Saturday has taken place after the 2019/20 and 2020/21 seasons were impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, and last year’s event only saw the women’s competitions fulfilled.

The Sarah Beaney Cup will be available to view via BBC ALBA (Freesat Channel 110, Virgin Media Channel 161 and available on BBC iPlayer).

Coverage will start from 3pm featuring commentary from Allan Macleod, who will be joined by Heather Lockhart on co-comms.

The Scottish Cup will be available to view on the Scottish Rugby website alongside the men’s and women’s National Shield games, with broadcast beginning 10 minutes before kick-off.

The commentary teams for these games will be: Bruce Millar and Fergus Pringle (Scottish Cup), whilst Dale Clancy will be joined by James Wade for the men’s National Shield coverage and Lucy Winter in the women’s National Shield.

In addition to the worldwide coverage, a highlights show with the best of the action from across all seven games will be available on the Scottish Rugby website and social media channels on Monday 8 May.

Scottish Rugby Head of Marketing, Jeremy Bone, said: “We’re delighted to once again be able to provide live coverage of Silver Saturday and provide a platform to showcase what I’m sure will be four fantastic games.

“It’s also great news that the Sarah Beaney Cup Final will once again be shown live on BBC ALBA.

“Last year’s live broadcast of the women’s Silver Saturday was a great success, with thousands of fans tuning in across the day.

“The teams who have reached the finals this year have put in a lot of hard work to get there, so it is really pleasing to be able to show these matches to a wider audience.”

Tickets are still available for Silver Saturday, click here for more information.
