BBC continue to support FOSROC Super Series

5 Apr 2023

Scottish Rugby can today confirm that 14 matches in the upcoming FOSROC Super Series Sprint will be shown live, with highlights of all matches available on the Scottish Rugby website.

Friday night lights are back with seven of the Friday matches to be shown live on BBC ALBA starting this Friday (7 April) with Ayrshire Bulls hosting Glasgow Warriors A at Millbrae (kick-off 7.35pm), with commentary from Hugh Dan MacLennan.

Throughout the FOSROC Super Series Sprint the Saturday 5pm games will be shown live on both the Scottish Rugby website, BBC Sport Scotland website and BBC iPlayer, including this weekend’s match where Heriot’s Rugby host Edinburgh Rugby A.

Both the Friday (7.35pm) and the Saturday (5pm) matches will be available live to those living outside of the UK on the Scottish Rugby website.

The first three rounds will have two games played simultaneously on Friday nights with one of the two games being featured live on BBC ALBA. After the professional A teams step down from Round 4, the format will see one live game on Friday nights with the same Saturday schedule.

A highlights package featuring all matches from across the weekend, including those not being broadcast live, will be available every Monday night on the Scottish Rugby website following each round of games.

This Friday night will also see Stirling Wolves welcoming Boroughmuir Bears to Bridgehaugh and Watsonians Rugby take on Southern Knights on Saturday to complete the opening weekend.

The commentary team for the FOSROC Super Series Sprint includes: Paul Mitchell, Jamie Lyall, Stuart McFarlane, Bruce Millar, Dale Clancy, Andrew Petrie, Chris Paterson, Lee Jones, Colin Gregor, Tom Brown and Heather Lockhart.

Grant McKelvey, Scottish Rugby’s Head of Performance Programs said: “It’s a hugely exciting time for those involved in the FOSROC Super Series. The broadcasting of 14 live matches will allow us to shine a spotlight on the next generation of professional players, coaches and match officials in Scotland, whilst providing a platform to showcase what is sure to be an entertaining seven weeks of rugby.”

“We’re committed to providing more high-performance opportunities and with the addition of A teams from both Edinburgh Rugby and Glasgow, this provides players from the six licence teams an opportunity to challenge themselves against new and different opposition.”

Scottish Rugby Head of Marketing, Jeremy Bone said: “It’s great news that we can once again broadcast the FOSROC Super Series Sprint to a worldwide audience and we’re delighted to welcome BBC ALBA back on board as our broadcast partner for the Friday night matches.

“BBC ALBA have a played a key role in promoting Scottish rugby over the years and we are excited this partnership is continuing this season. The additional of the online coverage through the BBC website and iPlayer will make the games accessible to fans on a variety of platforms and devices too.”
