Russell honed his skills with Stirling County, Falkirk and Ayr, and went on to become a key part of the Glasgow Warriors squad that tasted PRO12 glory in 2015, the same year he featured at a first Rugby World Cup.
A move to French giants Racing 92 followed in 2018 and, after winning a 50th cap for Scotland against Georgia at the tail end of 2020, Russell was called up to the 2021 British & Irish Lions squad (he also featured on the 2017 tour) where he went on to earn a first Lions cap in the third Test against South Africa, kicking 11 points in their narrow, series-defining loss against the world champions.
After five years in Paris, Russell made the move to Bath Rugby in 2023 following the conclusion of the Rugby World Cup. Amassing over 400 Scotland points, Russell is fourth in the country’s all-time list.
