The match will be played at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes, one of Argentina’s most recognisable sporting venues. Originally built for the 1978 FIFA World Cup, the stadium has become a national landmark, regularly hosting major football matches, international rugby fixtures and world-class concerts. With a capacity of around 57,000, the stadium provides a fitting stage for Scotland’s opening fixture in the new competition. Named after Córdoba-born FIFA World Cup winner Mario Kempes, the venue has become an increasingly important home for Argentine rugby in recent years.
Los Pumas have enjoyed memorable occasions at the stadium, with passionate local support helping to create one of the country’s most atmospheric Test match venues. Crowds of more than 55,000 have attended recent international fixtures, producing an electric backdrop for some of world rugby’s biggest encounters.
Scotland arrive in South America looking to build momentum as they begin their Nations Championship journey. Townsend’s squad combines a core of experienced internationals with exciting emerging talent, reflecting the depth that has developed within Scottish rugby in recent seasons.
Known for their ambitious attacking style and growing physicality, Scotland will face a stern examination against an Argentina side that continues to cement its place among the world’s leading rugby nations. Nicknamed Los Pumas, Argentina have earned a reputation for their relentless intensity, powerful forward play and ability to produce moments of attacking brilliance. Their rise on the international stage has made them one of the most difficult teams to face, particularly on home soil.
Meetings between Scotland and Argentina have consistently delivered fiercely contested and memorable encounters, with little often separating the two sides. Their latest chapter promises to continue that tradition as they meet in front of another passionate Córdoba crowd.
With a new competition beginning and one of South America’s most famous sporting venues providing the backdrop, the stage is set for an exciting opening test as Scotland look to make a positive start to their Nations Championship campaign.
